Uses

  • Guar Gum due to its special properties is widely used over a variety of industries, in direct form or as a derivative, from Food to Pharmaceuticals, Textiles to Oil Exploration and Mining to Explosives etc..

Use of Guar Gum in Food Industry.

  • Bakery : Bread, Biscuit and other Baked Foods
One of the major applications for guar gum powder is the production of bread. Even small quantities of guar gum powder added to the dough increase the yield, give greater resiliency, improve texture and give longer shelf life.

  • Dairy : Cheese
In this field guar gum is used as an excellent binder of water and a stabilizer. It is used in the production of cheese, liquid milk products, and others.

  • Meat : Ham and Sausages, Canned or Retorted Food of Fish and Meat.
Guar can be used as lubricant and excellent binder for various meat products. It allows storing with less loss of weight.

  • Dressing and sauces : Mayonnaise, Ketchup, Sauce and Dressings
Guar can be used as an excellent thickener to improve the stability and appearance of salad dressings, barbecue sauces, relishes, ketchups and others. It is quite compatible with highly acidic emulsions.

  • Beverages : Ice Cream, Sherbets,Soft Drinks & Concentrates etc.
Guar can be used as stabilizer for chocolate drinks, fruit nectars, and juices.

  • Miscellaneous food applications : Noodles and other Food Products.
Dry soups, sweet dessert, canned fish in sauce, frozen food items and others

Use of Guar Gum in Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Industry

  • Guar Gum can be used as a thickener for various cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. In compressed tablets Guar Gum can be used as a binder and disintegrator.

  • Several studies have found significant decrease in cholesterol levels after administration of guar gum in human consumption.

  • In cosmetics guar gum is used as thickener and suspending agent. It imparts good viscosity.

  • It gives better foam stability in shampoos.

  • It is also used in toothpastes.

Use of Guar Gum in Paper Industry

  • Guar Gum is used in the paper industry as an additive. It gives denser surface to the paper used in printing. It imparts improved erosive and writing properties, better bonding strength and increased hardness.

Use of Guar Gum in Explosive Industry

  • By mixing guar in Ammonium Nitrate, Nitro-glycerine and Oil explosives, even in wet conditions explosive property is maintained due to better swelling, water blocking and gelling properties of Guar Gum

Use of Guar Gum in Oil & Gas Industry

  • Guar Gum and Guar Derivatives are usde in the drilling and fracturing of oil & gas wells, because of their ability to thicken water efficiently at low concentration. They carry the sand or propping agent needed to keep the fracture open when the pressure is released, they are reliable polymers that will hydrate in field waters under many conditions.

Mining

  • In Mining Guar Gum is used principally as a flocculent to produce a liquid-solid separation by filtration, settling, and clarification of mineral slurries. The property used is the ability of the Gum to adsorb on the hydrated mineral particles by hydrogen bonding followed by agglomaration as a result of bridging.

  • Guar Gum is also used in flotation to recover base metals. Guar Gum acts as a depressant for talc or insoluble gangue minerals mined along with valuable minerals.
